SAGAR CHANDRA

Sagar Chandra is the Founding Partner of Sagar Chandra & Associates. An alumnus of Indian Law Society Law College, Pune, Sagar started his practice in one of India's leading IP law firms. In 2009, Sagar Chandra founded Sagar Chandra & Associates, a boutique IP law firm based in New Delhi.


Sagar has robust experience in IP litigation, trademarks, copyrights, patents, and IP licensing. He also heads the litigation department as well as the media and entertainment practice of the firm. His practice for the past 13 years focuses on intellectual property law, specifically patent, copyright, trademark, designs, licensing, and contractual issues. He counsels clients regarding the acquisition and retention of intellectual property rights including licensing negotiations and litigates disputes related to such rights. He has extensive experience with managing patent, copyright and trademark portfolios, patent, copyright and trademark prosecution and proceedings before the Indian Patent Office. 

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

In his 17 years in the legal industry, Sagar has worked with various industries and achieved commendable success. His experience includes successfully advising, defending and representing: 

  

  • Various pharmaceutical giants in  trademark and patent litigation; 
  • Major players in media/entertainment   industry including music composers and lyricists regarding various copyright  infringement and prosecution issues including contractual negotiations;  
  • Advising and Strategizing Brand   Protection of various FMCG companies.
  • Advising and Strategizing multi brand retail giants in matters concerning brand  protection  campaigns, corporate commercial transactions including  negotiations, licensing, Franchisee models, anti-counterfeiting, creation,  protection and enforcement of IP rights all over the world, IP monetization etc.
  • Representing Music Broadcasters in the first ever litigation which discussed about grant of an interim compulsory license.  
  • Representing clients in the first ever litigation in India concerning the  jurisdiction of the Court in case of Active websites.
